Gerontology – Multidisciplinary and Integrative Perspectives on Aging

The course is offered during the spring of 2025 and is hosted by the Department of Psychology at the University of Gothenburg, in collaboration with the Centre for Ageing and Health (AgeCap, University of Gothenburg) and the Swedish National Graduate School for Ageing and Health (SWEAH, Lund University). The course is open for all registered doctoral candidates, but precedence is given to students affiliated to SWEAH. 

The aim of the course is to provide a platform for reflections on multidisciplinary and integrative perspectives on aging, including shared and unique theoretical and methodological approaches in various disciplines. More specifically we work by building a personalized mind map, that helps the student to visually organize aging perspectives and theories, showing relationships among pieces of the whole.   

The course (3 credits*) presents current research in biological, medical, physiological, psychological, social, and cultural gerontology. Overview lectures on these topics are offered to demonstrate how various scientific perspectives are reflected in research questions and in current knowledge on aging and health.  

*Note that while the course is 3+2 HEC, only the first sub-course of 3 HEC will be offered in the spring of 2025.

Timeline spring 2025
•    March 13 (Thursday): Course introduction and lectures (online via Zoom)
•    April 3–4 (Thursday-Friday): Lectures and seminars (Department of Psychology, University of Gothenburg)
•    May 8 (Thursday): Examination seminar (online via Zoom) 

Application for participation is submitted via the application portal for doctoral courses at the University of Gothenburg. Deadline for registration was 16 January 2025.
