Now they are here, to scrutinize SWEAH’s operations inside and out. Yesterday three external evaluators landed in Lund, to review the Swedish National Graduate School on Ageing and Health.

During tuesday and wednesday this week, they will meet with Lund University’s Vice-Chancellor Erik Renström and Deputy Vice-Chancellor Lena Eskilsson, the SWEAH management, alumni and about 30 students who are simultaneously participating in SWEAH's PhD Student’s Days.

What are you most looking forward to?

I am expecting different perspectives from different people about the work, the improvements that can be made and the future of SWEAH, says one of the evaluators, Professor Marja Jylhä, from Faculty of Social Sciences, Tampere University in Finland.

The rest of the external expert panel consists of Professor Kerstin Tham, former Vice-Chancellor at Malmö University, and Professor Clemens Tesch-Roemer, from German Center of Gerontology in Berlin. They will review the graduate school's operations, with a focus on the years 2022-2024.

We want to learn about all secrets of SWEAH. We know our evaluation is very critical for SWEAH’s future, says Professor Clemens Tesch-Roemer.

Earlier in March they have had several online meetings with representatives from SWEAH board and the partner universities at research and management level. Now they appreciate to see SWEAH at site and also sit in and experience student sessions themselves.

That’s essential, to get nuances you need human interactions. From my perspective SWEAH is working in very important fields, so it’s a real pleasure for me to be invited, says Marja Jylhä.

At site you feel and see the work, the house and the people. It’s completely different and extremely important to meet like this in small groups. You get direct messages when talking, says Clemens Tesch-Roemer.

The auditors' report must be submitted to Lund University in June 2025.
